NAA introduces new materials and web pages for early years foundation stage assessment
The introduction of the early years foundation stage (EYFS) framework this September means that early years practitioners will be required to assess each child in the academic year in which he or she reaches the age of five. The aim is to produce a profile for each child giving parents and practitioners a clear picture of his or her attainments, and to support settings in creating a year 1 curriculum that meets children's needs.
Jan Dubiel, EYFS Profile Programme Leader for the NAA says
"NAA is introducing a range of new materials and web pages to support early years practitioners and settings as they go through this process and provide them with clear and comprehensive information and guidance on assessing, completing, recording and moderating EYFS profiles.
For example, the Early years foundation stage profile handbook and Assessment scales reference sheet being published in early July will be distributed to early years settings and local authorities, but will also be available as downloadable pdf's via the new EYFS profile web pages on the NAA website (click on www.naa.org.uk/eyfsp)."
The new web pages also contain other useful advice and information. Practitioners will be able to download the training package Continuing the learning journey, and all the additional guidance notes currently available, including the annually published Local authority moderation requirement booklet.
Information on statutory requirements regarding assessment and reporting arrangements for the EYFS profile will be found in 2009 key stage 1 Assessment and reporting arrangements, available later this autumn.
The web pages will be updated regularly as new materials are developed. Extensive video exemplification materials to support and guide practitioners in making assessment decisions should be accessible for download by September 2008.
