2008 national curriculum tests (NCT) maladministration committee

Dear colleague

2008 national curriculum tests (NCT) maladministration committee - nominations for new members

The NAA is looking to recruit practising headteachers to join an independent NCT maladministration committee for the 2008 national curriculum test cycle.

The NCT maladministration committee is an integral part of an established maladministration process for national curriculum tests. The role of the committee is to:

  • investigate allegations of maladministration
  • hear evidence from the NAA maladministration team and the school involved in the investigation
  • ensure fairness and parity for schools to enable confidence in the validity of national curriculum test results.

We would like to invite nominations for headteachers of primary and/or secondary schools within your local authority that would be willing and able to serve as potential members of the NCT maladministration committee. All nominated headteachers should be fully conversant with the statutory arrangements for administering national curriculum tests within key stage 1, 2 and 3 schools. Please make your nominations to the NAA by emailing gemma.holden@naa.org.uk by Monday 31 March.

All nominations will reviewed by the NAA and successful nominees will be initially informed by email and/or telephone. A formal contract letter will be sent once terms and conditions of appointment have been formally agreed. All successful nominees will be required to attend a compulsory training day on Thursday 17 April at NAA in London.

For 2008, the NCT maladministration committees will take place at the NAA in London on the following dates (please note these are still provisional and subject to change):

  • 26 June 2008
  • 10 July 2008
  • 17 July 2008
  • 18 September 2008
  • 25 September 2008
  • 1 October 2008
  • 8 October 2008.

Members may be called to attend one or more of the committees on the dates detailed above, depending on the type of case being heard. Please note that all travel and subsistence will be reimbursed by NAA. Payment for all training and attendance at committee meetings will be agreed in advance.

If you or your nominated headteacher would like further information on the role before taking a decision, please refer to the 2007 Maladministration procedures attached. Alternatively, please telephone Gemma Holden on 020 7509 5801 or email gemma.holden@naa.org.uk.

Thank you for your help in recruiting members to the NCT maladministration committee for 2008.
